A VIEW OF THE WORLD THROUGH MY CAMERA LENS

Egypt , free all journalists !

An Egyptian court sentenced on Monday , 23 June 2014, three journalists and colleagues from Al Jazeera English to between seven and ten years in prison. The alleged crime is aiding a group designated by Cairo as terrorist and manipulating footage to tarnish Egypt’s image but the evidence put forward by the prosecution stopped extremely short from proving their guilt. If anything, some of it proved how good journalists they are. ( they are internationally acclaimed and award winning journalists)

There has been international outcry over the sentencing and Egyptian ambassadors in the UK and the Netherlands have been summoned. US secretary of state John Kerry said the conviction is chilling and a draconian sentence

So it seems that Egypt is back to its old ways from Mubarak Era. A leader that took power ousting a democratically elected president. A general that doesn’t like it when you don’t obey. Amnesty and HRW have widely highlighted the ways used by gen. Sisi to silence media and opposition and crackdown on decent. The message sent is clear – basic human rights do not exist in the new Egypt, if you have a voice it will be violently shut. No rights to protest if you are opposition, no rights for journalists to report if they report on the opposition as well. Death sentences are handed over like they are on sale.

All press around the world (apart from the state media in Egypt) has called for their immediate release. They all have realized that anyone of them could be jailed at anytime when reporting on what Sisi and his government doesn’t like.
